The four codes

CodeUse it forBase rate
Q310ADirect patient care in person or by synchronous video, including video provided out of office.$20 per unit
Q311ASynchronous telephone care provided outside the usual family-practice setting.$17 per unit
Q312APatient-specific insured work without direct patient contact.$20 per unit
Q313AEligible non-patient-specific work for the roster or FHO that requires physician expertise.$20 per unit

A practical category test

  1. Ask whether you were in direct contact with the patient. If yes, start with Q310A or Q311A.
  2. For telephone care, ask where you were. Telephone care from home or another out-of-office location uses Q311A.
  3. If there was no direct contact, ask whether the work concerned a specific patient. Patient-specific work points to Q312A.
  4. If the work concerned the roster or clinical systems as a group, review Q313A eligibility.
  5. If the work was uninsured, delegated, ordinary business administration, or outside the eligible setting, do not place it in an hourly category.

Use the full code in claims

Some Ministry and OMA material displays the code stem as Q310 through Q313. Claims use the full codes Q310A through Q313A. Keep the suffix when you transfer the summary into your billing software.

Important notes

  • Choose the category that describes the work. Do not move time between categories to create room under a ratio.
